The Commons

A warm, private home for friend groups and neighbors to share food, tools, skills, and care — the way a good street already works, made a little easier.

Membership is by invitation, for now. Got a link from someone inside? It's your door.

Why we built it

Most of us own a drill we use twice a year, have a skill a neighbor would love to learn, and cook more than one household can eat — while quietly struggling with things someone two doors down would gladly help with.

The abundance is already here. What's missing is a simple, trusted place to see it and pass it around. Not a marketplace, not a feed — a commons: shared by people who already know each other, run by the people in it.

What's inside

Every commons gets a Board, a Calendar, and messages. From there it's a house with rooms — each one a place, turned on as your community needs it.

  • 🥫 The Pantry

Surplus food to claim and pick up — with allergens and a made-on date.

  • 🔧 The Shed

A library of things: borrow a tool, return it, save the cost of buying.

  • 👗 The Closet

Clothes to borrow or hand down — sizes live on the items, not on people.

  • 🍽️ The Table

Gatherings and potlucks, with plates, roles, and a planning thread.

  • 🌱 The Garden

Track what everyone grows and where the harvest goes.

  • 🕯️ The Hearth

Care when someone needs it — meal trains, rides, check-ins.

  • 🎓 Skills

What neighbors can teach and want to learn. No credits, just visibility.

  • 📇 Word of Mouth

Friend-vetted services. Faces you trust, never star ratings.

How it stays a home

  • Invite-only, and invisible to everyone outside it. No public profiles, no discovery.
  • No likes, scores, streaks, or leaderboards — none of the machinery that makes sharing feel like performing.
  • Money is never moved or held here. The commons tracks who paid what; you settle however you already do.
  • Your data is yours: delete your account whenever you choose, and any commons can export everything it holds.

Want to start your own commons?

The Commons is built for any group that already trusts each other — friend circles, neighbors, co-ops, care networks. We're quietly setting up new communities for founding stewards.
